What is CarterGarden?
A garden planning app for iPhone. You draw your garden beds, log the plants you grow, check whether each plant is safe for your cat or dog using the ASPCA lists, and see weather care alerts and reminders when you open the app.
How do I add a plant?
Open the Plants tab and add what you are growing: a name, the variety, whether it is potted or in the ground, the day you planted it, and a notes line. Then tap a bed in your garden and place a plant you have logged.
Where does the pet-safety information come from?
From the ASPCA's lists of plants that are toxic and non-toxic to cats and dogs. The app shows a verdict for each of your pets. When a common name could mean two different plants, it shows the cautious answer and asks which one you have, instead of guessing. When a plant has no data, it says so.
Do reminders send push notifications?
Not yet. Care reminders and weather alerts show inside the app when you open it. Push notifications are on the roadmap.
Can it read a nursery tag yet?
Not yet. Reading the printed text off a tag and filling the plant in for you is on the roadmap. When it ships, the reading will happen on your device, the photo will not be uploaded to us, and it will not be stored on our servers.
Where does the weather come from?
From OpenWeather, using your approximate device location if you allow it. The forecast is read against your plants to flag freeze, frost, heat, and high wind. Coordinates are used to fetch the weather and are not stored.
How much does it cost?
The first version is free. If paid plans ever arrive, the free core will stay honest and useful.
Is it on Android?
Not yet. CarterGarden is being built for iPhone first. Android is a maybe for later, not a promise.
How do I delete my account and data?
In the app, go to Profile and tap Delete account. It removes your account and everything tied to it: your garden, plants, and pets. If you would rather we do it, email developer@cartergarden.com from your account address.
